Saint Paul Vocal Forum presents “NORDLYS: A Scandinavian Choral Constellation”
Nov 14, 15
Featuring exciting compositions that reveal both the radiant warmth and shimmering coolness of arctic lands, Saint Paul Vocal Forum (www.spvf.net) explores music that invites imagination about what the Aurora Borealis might sound like, with the Northern Lights providing inspiration for their next concert, “NORDLYS: A Scandinavian Choral Constellation.”
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Mindekirken – The Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church in Minneapolis and 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Roseville. The concert is free and open to the public, though donations to SPVF will be gratefully accepted.
Joining the vocal ensemble for the first time is the acclaimed saxophonist, Peter Vircks. Pianist Steve Norquist is also a featured performer in these concerts.
Saint Paul Vocal Forum (SPVF) artistic director, Karin Barrett, has chosen seldom-heard gems by Norwegians Agathe Backer-Grøndahl, Ola Gjeilo, Edvard Grieg and Egil Hovland, as well as award-winning Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds. Hymns, folk songs and Sami-inspired yoiks by Frode Fjellheim are also incorporated into a stunning program that celebrates the music of Scandinavia and beyond. Velkommen til alle!
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring donations of winter mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. SPVF will distribute these items to people in need.
Ignite your spirit of joyful discovery! Join the SPVF this fall, as the chamber ensemble continues its tradition of sharing exquisite choral music with people from all walks of life.
